You Are Alive.

You are alive if your sighs convey the sadness
You are alive if you cry for happiness
You are alive if your tears are real and warm
You are alive if you are calm at the storm
You are alive if you look at happiness and see sadness,
You are alive if you look at sadness and see happiness
You are alive if lies break you
You are alive if truth makes you
You are alive if love softens you
You are alive if sadness breaks you
You are alive if you’d die for a kid-Any kid.
You are alive if your cry for a tear.
You are alive if you die for a smile.
You are alive if you live with no fear.
You are alive if your eyes reflect your dreams
You are alive if you feel pain in your heart
You are alive if you have the balls to open,
Your arms to the world and say, come hug me with a challenge.
You are alive if when you look at those eyes and say FU
You are alive if when you look at those eyes and say I love you
I am 27. I have lived 27 years.
Have you?

The Kid who wanted to have Fun and be Happy

So after a long wait, (3-4 months), I went back to my favorite town-Kandy. It was planned in a rush, but I enjoyed it very much and made me realize how much I love Kandy and how bad Colombo is.

The only downside of the trip was, that it took me 5ish hours to reach Kandy though I took the bus at 4ish in the evening. The driver was such a snail that I had to bite all my nails to deviate my thoughts from my need to crush his head with my earphone by poking his skull with it.

I went there for a surprise birthday party of a friend’s husband. He was delighted that I actually made it to Kandy at that hour knowing I will have to be back at office by next day morning. Their son who is almost 5 years old now was happier to see me and he was all over me from the second I stepped in. We (me and the kid) used to play a lot together and with me moving to Colombo, the contacts were limited. I actually miss him L

He does/ say the darndest things. He is an only child. So obviously is hyper active at home. The maid who comes to watch him when his parents are away is utterly exhausted by evening thus, they have another maid hired to handle the kid from evening till he sleeps around 9-10pm. 2 maids per day! Imagine his life in 20 more years! ;)

The lill man has vivid interests. He LOVES snakes. I know adults who freak out at the mere vision of snakes on TV, but this dude loves them. He knows all about snakes, what they eat, where they live, how long they grow in to etc. he recognizes different types of snakes. Cobras, Vipers, kraits etc. He also knows all the names of different dinosaurs and their habitats, eating patterns by heart. pretty amazing for a kid!

So, back to the birthday party story…., I stopped playing after about 90 minutes of hide and seeks, tortoise races (he has 12 tortoises), John Cena Vs Ray Mysterio wrestling matches, pillow fights, playing to have dinner. Kid started to cry saying that he needs to play and he want to have ‘FUN’. I told him that I am hungry and will come again after eating. But, he started being a pain and started screaming. By this time, the father of the kid was drunk (the birthday ‘boy’) and he came to see what the issue is. to take the things in to his control and show the little fellow that the big boy is the man.. still…

Below is the dialogue between 2 of them.

C = Father
U = Kid

C - Hey U, why are you crying?
U – Rain Drops is not coming to play with me..    crrrrryyyyyyyyyyyy

C turns to me and asks, hey play with the kid will yah? I reply, yes will do once I am fed!
C turns to the kid.

C – oh! Hey U, you heard Rain Drops.., stop crying.. He will come to play when he finishes his dinner.

U- No I want to play NOW! I want to play NOOOWWWW…. ( starts yelling and screaming and crying out loud) So C gets mad at the kid and tells him in a stern voice,

C- Stop crying. You are being unreasonable.

U- It’s my father’s birthday and I am supposed to be happy! But I am not having fun… you all are naughty crycrycrycry

C- What you mean? It is MY birthday. I am the one who should be happy here. So please stop crying and screaming, otherwise I will be sad. Do you want me to be sad on my birthday?

U looks at C for a second and says,

C- YOU are my FATHER. If YOU want to be happy, you make ME happy. Then, YOU will be happy!

At this point I could not stop laughing and I burst in to laughter with the rest of the people around. I assume C got sober with what the kid just said. He sat on the floor and start staring at the kid trying to figure out what to say or how to react!!

When he eventually spoke up, he said, Sorry U sorry!! I will get Rain Drops to play with you right now!!

Before I Forget...

Shape of Roti

When I was growing up, with an elder brother and a younger sister, we did not have many toys to play with. No computer classes, no swimming lessons, no remote control cars, no logo sets. New clothes were luxury. They were bought once an year- during April avurudu. Aiya’s some of the clothes were down graded to fit me. Nangi’s dresses were mainly from 2 family friend aunties who had daughters. We never asked for clothes nor toys. But we were busy with life as bees playing games and doing adventures.

Roti was a favorite dish and was frequently made for dinners. Ammi would knead the flour and would give us each a piece. The one who made the most artistic roti would win.

Cats, dog, lions that looked like octopuses, Jets, cars, bats, guns, dolls were come to life (die) on the heated iron pan. The biggest disadvantage was, no matter how good the kneaded flour design looked, when you lift it to put on to the roti pan, the diesing would get distorted. When the heat would play tricks on the floor and the roti will not be cooked evenly the Barbie doll would like a granny with mumps. With expertise we’d add Rathu Loonu and karapincha etc add more colors and designs. We made the funniest Rotis evah!

Tree houses.

How many of us wanted to live in a tree house? How many of us actually had a tree house? Well.. we did! We wanted a tree house and we actually had a pretty good tree house. It also had a lift! Well, though I said ‘we’ had a tree house, it was mainly my brothers. We were just given permission to visit him up there. We did not participate much for house construction hence we were not welcomed. But, he’d ask us (me and nangi) to come for a ‘visit’ when he is bored up there or feeling like showing off. I used crash in when he was not around. And think was never got caught.

It was on a Nutmeg tree about 50-60 feet above ground. Since these trees have a lot of branches very closely knitted together, it was the best selection.  We’d spend an entire weekend up there looking at the distant paddy fields, and spying on the road that lead to our house. The meals were brought up using the lift. A homemade telescope was made to search the area better. We even had another tree house built on a near by tree and a rope bridge was made. We would walk between the tress about 60feet over the ground among the two houses. We’d wait for thieves to come to our house so we surprise them with an attack from up above. Lucky for them, the thieves never came.
Whole this tree house game had to end when my bro fell down with the rope bridge from 60-50 feet above the ground. Unbelievably he was unharmed. Probably he was ‘slowed’ by hitting about 30-40 branches on the way down. That was the end to our housing scheme up above.

 Snakes

We had a lot of snakes, reptiles coming in side the house and were frequently found in nearby footpaths, garden etc. I was the snake expert. Bro was the executioner. Whenever we found a snake there was an accepted routine that took place.

We’d corner the snake (if found inside the house) and then I would go near as much as possible with my snake book. Then I would examine the snake’s features. I would recognize the snake, and then I will yell out what he generally eats, reproduction habits, status of their venom, likes, dislikes, habitats. If the snake is declared venomous, then the executioner could move with the proceedings. Once he made the hit, we’d leave the snake and its soul to leave the place in peace. We’d go to see the corpse after a while and the whole funeral would take place. Pirith will be chanted, the flowers will be thrown, a casket will be provided.

If the snake was declared not venomous, then the executioner would chase the snake out of the house. Everyone will live happily ever after.

MiPOD

So I have an iPod now! Yeeyy!!. I bought a 2nd hand iPod ..It’s a 3rd generation -8GB pod.

I know, pod is a commodity now and even the 15-16 year old girls have them. And me having one (a used pod) is not at all a biggie. But, it’s my first real gadget. J I feel so ‘equipped” I still haven’t figured out how it works with iTunes an all., and I still keep listening to the old user’s songs but I really like it.

A friend of mine said I may have spent a tiny bit more for a 2nd hand iPod touch. But who cares! It brings me joy! Screw him!!

In fact I showed it to my mom today and taught her some basic stuff. I mean there is no complicated stuff on it rite? It has only one button!! She loved it.

So, if you see me on the road waiting for a bus, I will be all wired in with my new gadgetmatic!

Here goes three hearty cheers for my ipod, MiPod!!!

In 1000 days..

In exactly 1000 more days (997 days actually, I started writing this 3 days ago) I will be 30. A list of things I would love to be/done by then! will do a valuation in 3 years..

  1. Love again.

It’s been few years since I officially stopped my relationship and have not loved anyone else since then. By 30, hopefully I will be mature enough to grow up and love again.

  1. Not feel guilty about certain things.

For the things I feel guilty now. Most of them are way beyond my control but, still there are things I would like to convince my self that I shouldn’t feel guilty about.

  1. Buy my own car and drive with NO ACCIDENTS.

Yep. Buying a car will happen I guess, but driving and then not meeting any accidents will be a challenge.

  1. Learn to cook fancy food

I am considered a good cook with Sri Lankan dishes but, would love to learn to cook those fancy tongue twisting (read to) menus.

  1. Have 6 packs.

So I can get a girl to play tak tik tuk on my stomach!

  1. Be satisfied that I have covered Sri Lanka.

I love travelling and hiking, but haven’t done within sri lanka for a looong time. I’d love to have said I have been there. I mean, we are VERY small country! I should be able to cover 25,000 sq Km in next 3 years rite?

  1. Know Colombo.

I have spent last 2 years in Colombo and as of now, I SUCK! I don’t know anywhere in Colombo!! L

  1. Change some random person’s life- In a good way.

Like, build a house, finance the education. The feeling would be heavenly!

  1. Own a place near a beach.

Any beach from Point Pedro to Dondra across trinco or Negambo. Just, sea- sand and wind would do. And peace!

  1. To have finally decided if I will be married or not.

If #1 happens, there are chances I will get married. But, if not I will decide not to marry and try stick to it. I don’t want to have a kid when I am 40 years old and deal with his teenage issues when I am 55!

  1. To have gained a good impression from my Ex’s parents

This is NOT going to happen. But for the record.., it worth a try. They haven’t seen me but hates me like satan! Urgh!!

  1. To be sure that I will retire in 15 years – max

And also to be sure that I will have a farm when I retire.

  1. Be vegetarian.

As of now, I am a fishtarian and chickentarian. (I eat only fish and Chicken- gave up pork this year and Beef few years back- not a fan of any other meet) I do this simply because that I do not want some creature to die just because I am hungry!!! I am not a 100% vegetarian yet because I don’t have the guts to be one- sadly!

  1. Bungee Jump / Sky Dive

Cus, I don’t think I will do it when I am 60!

  1. Tried alcohol and stopped it.

I have never had alcohol in my system and may be I should try it for a change. And then stop it. I don’t want be sober when I do rest of the 29 things  :p

16.Get involved in a real fight.

Have not been in a real fight since school!! Well, was in one few months back but, doesn’t count much cuz I neither got  hit nor could hit. But in this fight, I just wanna kick some ass! :D Just wanna see if my adrenaline still works

  1. See a WWE Match – LIVE

Yeah, you know, may be John Cena Vs, Undertaker or something. They all say wrestling is made up and crap, but I don’t care! It’s fun! :D

  1. Play a sport and be good at it.

As of now, my plans is with badminton or tennis. Or, may be both… first I have to kick my lazy butt and get my self on the ground- court whatever it is..!

  1. Have felt Snow.

Because I have never felt it.

20. To not to get chilled when I see my ex.

Hopefully this will happen when #1 happens. Or #1 will happen when 20 happens!

  1. To have a dog!

I can’t have a dog cuz I don’t have anyone to take care of it when I am away from home. I want a brown color dog! And will name it “Kopi”- as in coffee- yes.

  1. To live somewhere else,

Out of Sri Lanka, either the US or somewhere in Britain (Scotland??). Only for a while though.., if not, to have a better, finalized plan-time line of doing so and be certain that I will.

  1. Be good at household stuff

Like wiring, plumbing etc. now I know how to do stuff, but lazy to actually to do them.

  1. Obtain sil

At least thrice an year.

  1. to have this blog up and running till I am 30

Now that’s a challenge!

  1. Get tattooed.

I think I will do this as soon as I get the 6packs. I don’t have the tattoo yet only because I don’t think I don’t have enough muscles to have it inked.

  1. To have hosted a TV show!

I have done 2-3 programs when I was 13-14 years old. Logistics didn’t me to allow it afterwards. Would love to do try it out again, I may still have the touch! But I am very sure I will be waaay better than most of the current tv dudes.

  1. To be sung.

Some of my lyrics. I write in Sinhala. But the only hitch is, I have written only to/about her and I don’t want those to be sung. They are personal! Hope I will write something else.. I was told by many that my Sinhala writing is good.

  1. to be involved in a NGO

not those crappy, pointless NGOs who don’t do a thing. But something that really helps people/ environment.

  1. To learn to play that thing

The thing = guitar or flute. I can play them now too, but people tend to run away. So hopefully I will have them retained for a few minutes when I am 30.

Damn you metrology department!!!

OK, so last night, I was just passing by and accidently heard something on TV that caught my attention - the weather report!!!! It said, that NorthEast Monsoon is fully active now and that the next day (Thursday 25th) will rain. Not just rain, heavy rain!! To prove a point, they had a graphic prepared with bay of Bengal and India and Sri Lanka with a little comma shaped clouds coming in from NorthEast and they started raining from Trincomalee to Colombo via Kandy. With Thunder!!!Such, drama!

I was PISSED. By that time I had already decided to NOT to rain in Colombo on Thursday. My total schedule for the next few days was planned out and confirmed. The trip was planned, hotels were booked, the wind was notified, the sun was consulted, moon was updated, clouds were informed, water was ordered, distributed and stored, thunder was rested...... the whole logistics aspects of raining were in placed!!

But these stupid idiots at metrology department equipped only with Microsoft Powerpoint and  mouse with a click, decided that it will rain!??!!

What do they think of themselves?  Huh? I mean seriously!!!

I am thinking of what my next step should be.

To Rain or  Not to Rain. That’s the question!
