So after a long wait, (3-4 months), I went back to my favorite
town-Kandy. It was planned in a rush, but I enjoyed it very much and made me
realize how much I love Kandy and how bad Colombo is.
The only downside of the trip was, that it took me 5ish
hours to reach Kandy
though I took the bus at 4ish in the evening. The driver was such a snail that I
had to bite all my nails to deviate my thoughts from my need to crush his head
with my earphone by poking his skull with it.
I went there for a surprise birthday party of a friend’s husband.
He was delighted that I actually made it to Kandy at that hour knowing I will have to be
back at office by next day morning. Their son who is almost 5 years old now was
happier to see me and he was all over me from the second I stepped in. We (me
and the kid) used to play a lot together and with me moving to Colombo , the contacts were limited. I actually
miss him L
He does/ say the darndest things. He is an only child. So obviously
is hyper active at home. The maid who comes to watch him when his parents are
away is utterly exhausted by evening thus, they have another maid hired to
handle the kid from evening till he sleeps around 9-10pm. 2 maids per day! Imagine
his life in 20 more years! ;)
The lill man has vivid interests. He LOVES snakes. I know
adults who freak out at the mere vision of snakes on TV, but this dude loves
them. He knows all about snakes, what they eat, where they live, how long they
grow in to etc. he recognizes different types of snakes. Cobras, Vipers, kraits etc. He also knows
all the names of different dinosaurs and their habitats, eating patterns by
heart. pretty amazing for a kid!
So, back to the birthday party story…., I stopped playing after
about 90 minutes of hide and seeks, tortoise races (he has 12 tortoises), John
Cena Vs Ray Mysterio wrestling matches, pillow fights, playing to have dinner. Kid
started to cry saying that he needs to play and he want to have ‘FUN’. I told
him that I am hungry and will come again after eating. But, he started being a
pain and started screaming. By this time, the father of the kid was drunk (the
birthday ‘boy’) and he came to see what the issue is. to take the things in to
his control and show the little fellow that the big boy is the man.. still…
Below is the dialogue between 2 of them.
C = Father
U = Kid
C - Hey U, why are you crying?
U – Rain Drops is not coming to play with me.. crrrrryyyyyyyyyyyy
C turns to me and asks, hey play with the kid will yah? I reply,
yes will do once I am fed!
C turns to the kid.
C – oh! Hey U, you heard Rain Drops.., stop crying.. He will
come to play when he finishes his dinner.
U- No I want to play NOW! I want to play NOOOWWWW…. ( starts
yelling and screaming and crying out loud) So C gets mad at the kid and tells
him in a stern voice,
C- Stop crying. You are being unreasonable.
U- It’s my father’s birthday and I am supposed to be happy! But
I am not having fun… you all are naughty crycrycrycry
C- What you mean? It is MY birthday. I am the one who should
be happy here. So please stop crying and screaming, otherwise I will be sad. Do
you want me to be sad on my birthday?
U looks at C for a second and says,
C- YOU are my FATHER. If YOU want to be happy, you make ME
happy. Then, YOU will be happy!
At this point I could not stop laughing and I burst in to
laughter with the rest of the people around. I assume C got sober with what the
kid just said. He sat on the floor and start staring at the kid trying to
figure out what to say or how to react!!
When he eventually spoke up, he said, Sorry U sorry!! I will
get Rain Drops to play with you right now!!
